In 2001, we began a grand project to create a winery specializingexclusively in the production of high quality, terroir driven, boutique wines –the best thatChile has to offer. From this effort, two great wines were born, Altaïr and Sideral. One of the main objectives of the winery is to consistently achieve a complete synergybetween the unique characteristics of the terroir, and the skills of the winemaking team, leadby resident winemaker Ana María Cumsille and renowned winemaker-consultant PascalChatonnet, using the most advanced technology in producing these wines.

Altaïr vineyards include 72 hectares (178 acres) in Totihue, the Cachapoal Valley, 100kilometers (62 miles) south of Santiago. The vineyards are highly influenced by their uniquegeographic features. In particular, their location at the foot of the Andes mountains allows foran extremely broad oscillation between day and night temperatures (+/- 26° C, +/- 50° F intotal), and their soil composition, made up primarily of rocky sand and clay, permits theproduction of wines with an exuberant expression of fresh fruit, a unique elegance andbalanced structure. The vineyards are comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Petit Verdot, Syrah andCabernet Francwhose average age is 15 years old. Vineyarddensity ranges from 5,000 to 10,000 plants per hectare with yields of 1 kilogram (2.2 lbs) /plant for Altaïr and 1.5 kilograms (3.3 lbs) / plant for Sideral.

These first wines were launched in the international market in 2004.These and subsequent vintages have received multiple awards and acknowledgments fromsuch publications as Robert Parker´s Wine Advocate which ratedabove 90 points.  Sideral is a tremendous wine nourished by the virtues of its AltoCachapoal terroir. Although Sideral adheres to the French Gran Cruphilosophy, it has its own personality. It is both serious and relaxedat the same time and can accompany a formal dinner as well as aget- together with friends. This is a wine with an unbeatable price/quality ratio. Production is limited to our vineyard’s production.

 Altaïr is the highest expression of the Alto Cachapoal terroirand was conceived to be the best wine in Chile. It is ablend of the best blocks of the vineyard, which all contributeto make our annual masterpiece. Plants are low yielding, andfermentation takes place in wooden vats. This is a concentrated, elegant and balanced wine of exceedingly high quality. Production is limited to the capacity and quality of the grapeswhich determine the nature of the wine. Maximum productionis 3.500 cases.
